Collaborating

Oftentimes, making music involves working with others. This can be in a band, working with audio engineers, producers, or comissioned musicians that contribute to a song. It can mean working with an old friend you've known all your life or with a total stranger, who lives on another continent. One thing, however, is clear: Talking about music is hard. Expressing musical ideas is difficult enough as it is - add the internet, time zone differences, release dates and competing creative visions and it becomes nearly impossible.

With Cosonify, we want to help you focus on your music and to make that possible, we want to enable you to express your ideas clearly and to communicate efficiently so you can spend less time talking about music and more time actually making music.

We provide many features to make this possible and this article will introduce them to you. Let us know what you think!

It all starts with an idea

Ideas are what makes music individual, subjective and creative. We cannot provide them to you but we can help you record yours, which is what our app, the Cosonify Mindpool is for. While ideas belong to you personally, by having them in your account, on the same platform where you will work with others, you don't have to deal with questions like "How do I get that audio from dropbox into the project?", "Which app did I use to record that?", "Is that stored on my old or new phone?". Your ideas are ready to be shared with your collaborators as soon as you have collected them.

Projects

The heart of any collaboration on Cosonify is a project. Simply go to Cosonify and click the "New Project" tile. Give your project a name and click create and you're good to go.

INFO

If you haven't created an account yet, don't worry: It's free and super simple. Just go here and create one right now.

Now that you have created a project, click it and you will see the Infoboard. This is where you can specify a description for the project and invite your collaborators. Click the "Invite collaborators" button and you will have two options to invite people:

Inviting collaborators

There are two ways to invite your collaborators to a project. If your collaborator is already using Cosonify, you can switch to the "Search" tab and insert their username. If you have collaborated with them in the past, they will be shown as a quick suggestion at the top of your search results.

If you don't know if they are using Cosonify yet or you know they don't: Use the "Link" tab and click the "Copy link" button. We have now copied a link to your clipboard and you can simply paste it into an email or chat with them.

INFO

The link option will also work if they already have an account.

Once you have added somebody to the project, they will be shown as pending on the Infoboard until they accept you invitation.

Boards

The work on Cosonify happens on the boards, namely the Whiteboard, Taskboard and Ideaboard. These boards are live-collaborative, so as you make changes to them, they will update in realtime for your collaborators. This is especially amazing on the Whiteboard.

There are thousands of ways to use Cosonify to your advantage and we cannot list them all here but here are some important ideas:

  • You can use the Ideaboard to collect feedback about a song version. Once you have uploaded the file, your collaborators don't have to search for it in some cloud storage or download it manually - they can simply go to the ideaboard, which always shows the latests version first and press play.
  • You can use the taskboard to keep track of what you have to do in your project. Especially when many people are involved, it can be challenging to keep track of all the things that neet to be done. On the taskboard, you can create tasks and assign whoever is responsible.
  • There is a project-chat in Cosonify. Simply talk about everything that has to do with the project in the chat of that project and you'll be sure to have everything in one place in the future. No more scrolling back 5 months in WhatsApp to find what your drummer wanted you to change in the latests mix of the songs.
  • You can use a pen (if your device supports it) on the Whiteboard to take notes, highlight details and to interact with other items. You team can see you draw in real-time, for example while you're on a call working on the song. This works on computers, tablets and in the Cosonify Mindpool app.

We want to hear you!

If Cosonify has helped you do something amazing, if your new song is out and you and your collaborators want to share it with the world, be sure to post it in our Discord community and our team of devs also loves to hear what you think and how you have decided to use our products.
